Loves Does
Date 2/22/2012

The season of Lent approaches, a wonderful season of: reflection, prayer, interior examination, and almsgiving. Almsgiving became a part of Lent in the early church as Christians were called, through action, to remedy our times of forgetfulness of the needs of our fellow man. This season we're trying somethign spectacular for Lent. We would like to invite every St. Paul's family to do an act of charitable outreach. We'd like to spread the Good News of our concern throughout the Mobile community. We have a varied and sub list of suggested projects that we believe will be both fun and rewarding. Below are some fo the first offerings. Sign-ups will officially begin soon, but we wanted to give you a taste fo what is to come. If any of these appeal to you immediately, please contact Lydia Johnson at lydia.knizley.johnson@gmail.com or call the Church Office. Be on the look out for more opporutnities to serve and more information to come! Help us as Love Does in our community.

Loaves and Fish/ Waterfront Rescue Grocery Delivery
Thanks to the loving spirit of Les Stuart, Fresh Market has graciously agreed to donate baked goods to 15 Place Multi-Service Center for the Homeless and the Waterfront Rescue Mission. We need drivers willing to assist the hungry by picking up baked goods between noon and 1:30pm and deliver them to 15 Place and WRM by 3:30pm any Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday during Lent.

UCP Parents’ Night Out
United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) is dedicated to advancing the independence of people with disabilities. UCP offers a wide range of services for people of all ages, starting with one of our early intervention programs and continuing through adulthood with our supported employment program. On Fri., March 2 they will be hosting a Parents’ Night Out to give parents of children with disabilities a night out on the town. We need 15 volunteers ready to play with 20 super wonderful children from 4:30-9:30pm. We’ll provide crafts, games, and food- all we need is YOU! UCP staff members will be present to manage and assist.

Raise the Roof Wheel Chair Ramp Build
Raise the Roof is a new ministry to Mobile that seeks to share the love and grace of Jesus through crucial home repairs to home owners in need. On Sat., March 24th beginning at 1pm we will be rebuilding a wheel chair ramp for a local resident. We need 8 people ready to serve, love, and build!

Tutoring at Taylor Park
Schools surrounding Taylor Park feed into high schools with unbelievable drop-out rates. Help a local missionary, Coach Z, and other dedicated tutors and mentors give hope a chance through education by volunteering to tutor or assist in tutoring at the Taylor Park Community Center. Tutors are needed all Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays (with the exception of Mobile County Public School holidays) from 3:34-5:45. Teams from St. Paul’s Church will be going together on Feb. 28, March 6, March 14, March 20,  March 29 and April 5.

Ransom Café
The Ransom Café is located on Airport Blvd. Just looking at it, you wouldn’t know there was anything special about it. But Ransom Café is all about showing Jesus’ heart through service and unconditional love. Ransom Café exists to combat physical and spiritual hunger by using quality fresh ingredients in the food served, helping others to learn about food preparations, job preparedness, participating in community missions and showing the love of Christ. They don’t have a cash register or a set menu, but they will help you get a hot meal when you need it and offer you a chance to be served with dignity. Or, you can just come help out! Serves and cooks are needed form 11am-2pm every Tuesday through Friday, and Friday nights from 5-8pm. Teams from St. Paul’s will be going together from 11am-2pm on Feb. 23, March 1, March 7m March 22, March 27, and April 4. Teams will also be going from 5-8pm on Friday March 16.

Victory Health Partner’s Lawn Service
As a witness for Jesus Christ, Victory Health Partners exists to minister to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the medically under-served by providing affordable, quality health care services. They recognize that God is the True Healer and the source of all. They seek to know Jesus Christ, His Son, and to make Him known.  They have a wonderful ministry inside the walls of the building. Let’s make the outside just as beautiful! Bring your lawn mower, weed eater, gloves and spades as we come to clean up Victory Health Partner’s lawn after church on Feb. 26, March 4, March 18, March 25, and April 1.
